The Bu Life Journal

There are certain places in the world that don’t just take your breath away… they give something back.
For me, that place is Madeira.
My husband introduced me to this island, his home, his roots, his story, and from the moment I arrived, I understood why it holds such a deep piece of his heart. And now, it holds mine too.

Madeira isn’t loud in its beauty. It doesn’t demand attention.
It invites you in.
It’s an island of nurture… of nature… of quiet magic. Dramatic cliffs that meet the ocean, winding paths through lush green mountains, the soft rhythm of life that reminds you to slow down and simply be. It’s the kind of place where you exhale without realizing you’ve been holding your breath.
And that feeling… that return to self… is exactly why Madeira became our next Bu Life retreat destination.
Where Luxury Meets Deep Exhale
Our home for this experience will be the iconic Reid’s Palace, A Belmond Hotel—a place where timeless elegance meets effortless relaxation.
Perched above the Atlantic, Reid’s doesn’t just offer views—it offers perspective. Mornings begin with ocean air and stillness. Evenings soften into golden light and calm.
This is not about doing more.
This is about feeling more.

The Experience: Movement as Medicine
Over six nights and seven days, we’ll gently guide you back into your body, your breath, and your rhythm.
Think:
- Intentional Pilates to restore strength and alignment
- Flowing Gyrokinesis to open, energize, and create space
- Deep fascia release to unwind what you’ve been carrying—physically and emotionally
Every movement session is designed not to push, but to support. Not to exhaust, but to awaken.
We move with purpose… and we rest with equal intention.
Nourishment from the Island
One of the most beautiful, and often unexpected, parts of Madeira is its food.
Simple. Clean. Nourishing.
Meals here are rooted in freshness—locally caught fish, vibrant vegetables, tropical fruits, and ingredients that haven’t traveled far from where they were grown. It’s food that feels good in your body… light, energizing, and deeply satisfying without heaviness.
During our time together, we’ll be immersed in the magic of the Madeira Flower Festival—a celebration of color, beauty, and life in full bloom.
The island comes alive with brilliant flowers, artful displays, and charming stalls filled with local foods and delicacies. It’s a sensory experience—wandering through vibrant streets, tasting fresh bites, sipping delicious wines, and experiencing the richness of the island’s culture.

From incredible local dishes to the indulgence of Madeira’s famous wine and the iconic Madeira wine, every moment is an invitation to savor.
This is nourishment the Bu Life way—supporting your movement, your energy, and your overall sense of well-being, while also celebrating the joy of living fully.
A Different Kind of Journey
For those who joined us or followed along on our African retreat, you know it was expansive, soulful, and deeply connective in a powerful, outward way.
Madeira will be something beautifully different.
Where Africa was about awe and shared experience,
Madeira is about reset and grounding.
It’s quieter. Softer. More inward.

This is where you come to:
- Reconnect with yourself
- Recalibrate your nervous system
- Feel held by nature rather than stretched by it
It’s less about exploration… and more about integration.
Your Invitation to Paradise
This is your invitation to step away from the noise, the pace, the constant doing.
To land on an island where time slows…
Where your body softens…
Where you remember what it feels like to feel like you again.
May 10–16, 2027
Five nights. Six days.
A return to self.
A piece of paradise waiting for you.
Welcome to Madeira.
Welcome to The Bu Life.
Because the most beautiful life is the one we build together.
❤️ Sam
