I’m Sam, and this studio is my heart. I followed in my mother’s footsteps and began my career as a travelling chef with the Orient Express Group. Years of long hours on my feet eventually led to a series of injuries — a broken tailbone, degenerative disc disease, and chronic back pain. Pilates became my path to recovery, helping me rebuild strength, mobility, and confidence. That transformation inspired me to create BULATES – a space where others can reclaim their bodies, find freedom in movement, and feel fully alive again.

Here, movement is personal. We work in small, focused sessions that are tailored to your life, your body, and your goals. Whether you’re rebuilding strength, returning to yourself, or simply ready to move better – you’re welcome here.

The Studio

BULATES was born in ‘The Bu’ and it reflects everything we believe about movement: that it should be intentional, energising, and deeply human.

The studio is intimate and open, with soaring ceilings and a natural luminescence. Think of it as an atrium for movement – alive with light, lined with plants, and full of breath. There’s something about the energy of leaves – vibrant, grounding, calming. I love that. You can feel it the moment you walk in.

We’re fully equipped for Pilates and Gyrotonic, with reformers, chairs, Cadillac, ladder barrel, mats, tower, archway, and more. And don’t forget a cosy corner to pause for good coffee, connect, or just watch the world (and the workouts) go by.

Meet your instructors

Sam

After my own recovery from chronic pain through Pilates, I’ve spent the past 10 years helping people restore mobility, build strength, and regain confidence.
My passion for exploring movement led me to Gyrotonic, unlocking greater flexibility and freedom that I now share with clients who struggle with stiffness or limited movement. Fun fact: I originally trained as a chef and still love creating in the kitchen.
I’m a classically trained Pilates Instructor, Gyrotonic, Archway, Leg Extension Unit, and Gyrokinesis certified.

Valentina

After years as a dancer and aerialist, my body needed a new way to recover and stay strong. Pilates and Gyrotonic became my foundation, supporting both my performance and long-term health.
I love guiding clients to discover what works best for their unique bodies, bringing strength, flexibility, and freedom through movement. Fun fact: I spend my free time climbing in Yosemite and the High Sierras.
I’m certified in Pilates and Gyrotonic, with a passion for lifelong learning.

Bita

I fell in love with Pilates after experiencing how it transformed my body and mindset, helping me feel stronger, more confident, and connected.
Teaching allows me to empower my clients to discover that same sense of freedom and balance in their own movement. A fun fact about me: I’m a total foodie and love exploring new local restaurants.
I’m certified in Reformer and Mat Pilates, with a focus on mindful alignment.

Carmell

I discovered Pilates after multiple injuries from traditional forms of fitness and found healing through therapeutic movement. That transformation inspired me to help others move with strength, confidence, and a deeper mind-body connection that supports everyday life.
When I’m not teaching, I’m usually playing Uber driver for my four kids!
I’m classically trained in Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Mat, and I’m NPCP certified.

Kathleen

I started my Pilates journey in 2014 as a regular student and was amazed at how it integrated my mind, heart, and body. That transformation inspired me to become an instructor and later expand into Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis, which empower my clients to move with greater strength, freedom, and awareness.
Fun fact: I spent many years as a K-12 special education teacher and school counsellor.
I’m certified in Mat and Reformer Pilates, trained in Gyrotonic, and a Gyrokinesis apprentice.

The BU Room Infrared Sauna Sessions

Welcome to The BU Room – our private infrared sauna pod, which offers a powerful way to deepen your wellness practice.

Whether you’re recovering after a session, looking to detox, or simply want 20-40 minutes of heat and stillness, this is your personal reset.

The infrared heat works deeply – soothing sore muscles, easing inflammation, and helping the nervous system unwind. It’s a powerful anti-ageing tool! 

For the perfect cool‑down, we encourage you to take a quick dip in the ocean – just a two‑minute drive away. Nothing compares to the natural reset of the sea!
